Tuesday - 30 Rock and the Museum from Night at the Museum!

Today we woke up early (7:30 am) to get to our NBC tour on time. It started at 10 a.m. but it's recommended to be there ahead of time. So we ate at the City Kitchen (again) and headed toward 30 Rockefeller Place. It was only half a mile from our hotel, so we got there nearly an hour early. We looked around the NBC store while we waited. We were super excited to go on the tour because we watch the show "30 Rock" all the time and couldn't wait to (sort of) experience that in person.

The pages that were taking us on the tour came down and we went through security (again). They were super nice though, and we even got badges! There were about 12 other people in our group and we all headed up the stairs. Unfortunately, there was no photography allowed, but that made it better because everyone was alert and listening to the pages talk and enjoying the experience in the moment. We were surprised how much the pages knew! We think they must have to go through a lot of training just to learn everything they need to know.

We visited all the different studios where they film Late Night with Seth Meyers, the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon (Samantha's favorite), Nightly News with Lester Holt, etc. We also got to see the sound engineers and video engineers working on the network and what goes out at certain times. It was amazing!

At the end we even got to make a show of our own! We each got to choose roles. We chose to work as producers and change the camera angles. You can see it here: http://onair.thetouratnbcstudios.com/23986592  It's very cheesy but it was fun and it was a great way to wrap up the tour.

We went to Moe's for lunch because we were craving it and wanted something that felt like home. It wasn't very crowded because we got there at 11:30, and we just beat the lunch rush. It was really good and felt so good to sit down for a bit and plan our next move.

We are trying to make the most out of our time here, so after lunch we went to the American Museum of Natural History. We got there around 1pm and had to wait in a long line. But we got in quickly after that. The layout was confusing so we walked a lot more than we had previous days! It was so much fun. We got to see a ton of stuff, and even got to go to the planetarium and see a short film narrated by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. It was so cool. I (Samantha) really love space and to hear him talk about the intricacies of the universe and dark matter was really cool! That was our favorite thing.
The section of North American mammals is all life size dioramas with taxidermy of all the animals. It seems kind of weird to be looking at dead animals but being able to examine them up close is really interesting. And they pose for pictures a lot more patiently than the animals at the zoo! ;)

We walked around and looked at the dinosaurs and saw some really cool ones.
There were so many huge dinosaurs. One was called the Titanosaur and it was so big it stretched out of the room.

Our feet were tired, (still, always)  and we had already been there for 4 hours, so we decided to head on back to the hotel and rest. We rested for a couple hours and by 8pm we just wanted something quick to eat, so walked down to the Burger King. We are so used to the Burger King's in Jax being dirty and poorly maintained. But this one was the NICEST Burger King we've ever been to! It was clean and had nice seating and nice lights, and the people were fairly pleasant. Seriously, best Burger King I've (Samantha) ever been to!!!!

So that wraps it up for Tuesday, we feel like we did a lot today and still had time to rest and relax.
Tomorrow is Wednesday and our last full day in NYC before heading home on Thursday. Check back in tomorrow night to see how we do!

Flying in and first day!

We are so excited to be visiting NYC together. Tami had been there many times for classes, but this is Samantha's very first trip. The trip to the airport and the flight were uneventful and easy. We got to JFK ahead of schedule and our baggage was waiting for us when we got to baggage claim.  JFK is a lot bigger than Samantha expected! We decided to take the Airporter shuttle bus to Times Square because it seemed less stressful than riding the subway all the way there. However, the traffic was just horrible and it took us two whole hours to get to Times Square! Once off the bus, it took us a few tries to walk in the right direction and when we got to our hotel, the line to check in was very long so it was another hour and a half later when we finally got settled in our room.  We were both very tired and frustrated waiting for so long in line but when we finally reached the desk agent Tami smiled and said hello to the desk clerk and he said he really appreciated the smile. ...

Wednesday -- Empire State Building and Central Park

We woke up pretty early in order to beat the rush because we were going to the Empire State Building! We ate breakfast at the same place and then got on the Subway and made our way to the building. It is a gigantic building! I know what the top looks like, but I had no idea what the bottom looks like till today. It's really amazing how big it is. I can't even imagine what the people who work there think of it. We had to go through more security, but it was pretty easy, except for the line. It, like every other line, it zigzagged back and forth forever! Once we got through security, we headed up to the elevators. They packed 10 of us in a tiny elevator that took us up to the 80th floor, where there was an observatory. We spent about 10 minutes there before going to the next elevator. That one took us to the 86 floor. Of course there was a long line for that one, they said about 15 minutes, but it was only 10. They offered people to walk up 6 flights of stairs but we decided to...
